WOW! This summer is flying by--already in the back to school mode- physicals for the kids, school shopping, senior pictures(my oldest graduates 2004)--here in the Chicago area summer has been more like Oregon weather--wet and cloudy--but hey---water is a good thang!
In fact, water exercsie is probably one of the best cross training additions you could choose! Whether you decide to swim laps, take a water walking class, or an aqua aerobics class, water exercise is a definate asset to your workout routine! Super safe for your joints, the water cushions while providing resistance uniformly around your body. Those with circulation concerns see very positive improvements in circulation(i.e. less swelling in the lower legs) thanx to water exercise.
You may want to use the perceived exhertion scale during water workouts to gauge your effort. The one to ten scale ranges from 10 being very very hard to 1 being very very light-with 5 being somewhat hard. Numbers between 4-8 mean you most likely worked at a safe yet effective rate! How you feel is most important! Listen to your body!
Whether you are just beginning activity, or have some medical conditions, or are just out of shape water exercise is just the ticket for a safe and effective workout! Water is FUN TOO! YES walking in the rain outside counts as well! LOL ---- Keep Moving-- Love, Dee
